The Importance of Oiling [ALL] Hair!

There seems to be this mindset that only an elect few people can reap the benefits of oiling their hair. The fact of the matter is that it does not matter whether you have long or short hair, frizzy, kinky, coily or straight hair-- ALL hair types can benefit from oiling.

What is the point in oiling our hair?

Oiling our hair provides our scalps, and individual strands with nutrients that they won't get from chemical components found in shampoo or conditioner. If you like massaging the oil into your scalp the greatest benefit you will receive is a slight increase in hair growth.

I know some of you are reading this post saying "well scientists say that hair only grows half an inch per month" there is no study that states that a head of well maintained hair cannot have an increase of grow nor have scientists tested every head for growth rates. My hair normally grows an inch per month. Obviously when I am not taking care of it and not trimming as much as I should or doing treatments to maintain its health it begins to break off or become damaged which stunts growth which is an entirely different blog for another day.

Look at the ingredients on your shampoo and conditioner. There are little to no good things in traditional shampoo and conditioner. Think of it as detergent and fabric softener. You need the 45 minute oil treatment once to three times a week (depending on how often you wash) to actually feed your hair. Hair is like skin and nails. It isn't going to grow if it isn't receiving nutrients.

I will soon be posting the benefits of oiling kinkier and tightly coiled textures as well as a recipe that I use to nourish my hair and encourage healthy hair growth.
